Health care workers represented by CUPE and SEIU are protesting real wage cuts and concessions prior to their upcoming collective bargaining negotiations with the Ontario Health Association this fall. This is no way to thank front line health care workers for all they have done during the pandemic.

Inflation was 3.4% in April but the government has limited our wage increases to 1% for the first 3 years of our contract. But Quebec just signed a deal that gives its health care workers 2% increases in each of the next 3 years plus 1% lump sums in years 1 and 3.

May 19 is PSW Day, an occasion to celebrate the critical role of Personal Support Workers in our health care system. Alongside other health care workers including nurses, cleaners and dietary aides, PSWs form an integral part of care teams across our health care system and deserve respect, good compensation and protection. Thank you to PSWs & all health care workers. #PSWDay

On April 28, we are encouraging all CUPE members across the province to observe a moment of silence in recognition of workers who have been killed or injured on the job and in protest of the government’s failure to protect them from COVID-19.

After months of putting themselves and their families at risk the Ontario Conservative Government is thanking health care workers by violating their constitutional rights and needlessly overriding the Collective Agreements bargained in good faith with hospitals and the Ontario Hospital Association.
